8U - Little Mischief (Girls)
2025-2026 Season of the All Girls 8U Little Mischief is launching October 2025!
Following the foundation made by Powhatan Ice Den's 6U 'Mini-Mites' Program this ALL GIRLS team is to give female hockey players a place of their own to grow and build a build a solid foundation in this sport.
Our 2025 fall season will follow the Ice Den's schedule and begin October and run through early March. This program will be split into 2 "seasons" to allow for players to join in January after completing the fall Future Caps or HockeyU programs.
Powhatan Ice Den endorses and follows the USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) and incorporate small groups in a station based format. Players will focus on skating (edge work), hockey fundamentals and participate in weekend 4v4 games against each other.
The Little Mischief girls team will only have on-ice time 1x per week. The time will be split into practice as well as scrimmaging. This team will have opportunities to participate in away games against other programs as well as jamborees and a tournament. This is not a travel program but we will ensure there is opportunities for players and families to experience that part of the sport. We recommend players also join the 6U Polar Mites or 8U Richmond Generals for supplemental games and ice time if they would like more.
Overall this program is a development based program with a focus on skating and skill but with an emphasis in exposing the players to the game before moving to a higher level. We emphasis fun rather than early specialization of players. By developing these all-around-skills we hope to increase the player's love for the game while building a strong hockey foundation.
Head Coach Michelle Walton
We're happy to welcome coach Michelle as the head coach for the 8U Lady Polar Mites. She grew up playing travel hockey in Richmond and went on to play AAA Womens with the Little Caps. She is also the Atlantic Regional Director of the USA Floorball Assoc. With a passion for younger hockey players, Michelle will bring exceptional skill and wisdom to the Polar Mites program.

NEW FOR 2025 - USA Hockey is now offering a 6U/8U modified coaching clinic to encourage more parents to assist on ice. This clinic is an option instead of taking the Level 1 coaching class.
