FLOORBALL
We've partnered with Richmond Floorball Club to launch a "Floorball Summer"!
Summer 2025 will bring a Floorball league, adult and youth clinics, referee clinics, tournaments and so much more!
WHAT IS FLOORBALL?
If you are a seasoned player, a hockey player looking for off-ice activity, or you never held a stick in your hand, you can start playing floorball at the Powhatan Ice Den.
- Floorball comes from the same family of sports as ice hockey but is played indoor with floorball sticks and a light hollow plastic ball.
- Floorball is played with lightweight plastic ball and a floorball stick which is made out of composite material and plastic blade.
- The goalie plays without a stick and is the only player of the team that wears protective equipment consisting of a helmet and lightly padded clothing and gloves.
- Floorball can be played on any hard service.
Floorball rules promote contact-less and safe play. The basic rules are:
- No lifting, hitting or blocking of opponents stick is allowed.
- No pushing or tackling except for shoulder-to-shoulder contact is allowed.
- Ball can’t be played with head or hand.
- The stick must stay below waist level and ball cannot be played above knee level.
- Players are not allowed to play while jumping.
What Equipment is needed?
- Players - only need a stick.
- Goalies - helmet, knee pads, and gloves are optional.

Rules:
RFC officers and volunteers will operate the league, having learned from USA Floorball officials. RFC will instruct/educate the league and players while officiating. Additionally, they will have guidance throughout the summer from IFF-certified referees.
Safety of the players and consistency of the enforcement of the rules are paramount.

Floorball Summer Programs
Summer Sizzle Adult League - Starting June 10th
- 10-week league on Tuesday nights at the Ice Den
- Games are played 4v4 plus goalies.
- Open to adults 18+.
- Two divisions. Inclusive of all skill levels, from brand new players to seasoned vets.
- Sign up solo, with a group, or as a team; there is no maximum number of players per team.
- Coed teams encouraged! But we will have no gender requirements.
- Structured, safe, and fun—officiated based on USA Floorball rules.
- No additional gear needed. Sticks provided for anyone in need —just bring yourself!
- $80 per player.
Summer Camp with Central VA Gym
We're teaming up with Central Virginia Gymnastics for 6 weeks of full-day fun, combining two awesome half-day camps!

Roller Hockey via Richmond Roller Hockey League
Adult 3v3 Roller League
- $100 entry fee
- June through August
- 10 games plus playoffs
- All skill levels allowed (advanced down to less experienced)
- This is a competitive hockey league - not pickup hockey - with no ref so anyone that instigates a fight, or tries to, or is verbally abusive to other players, will be kicked out without a refund - we have a zero tolerance policy for unnecessary BS
- Teams are drafted - we do not accept entry of teams - no exception
- Entry into the league isn't complete until fee is paid (sending an email isn't enough to register)
- Registration ends May 23rd
- Teams posted by May 30th
